Alltel - Clintwood area

Got my cell bill a couple of days ago and noticed roaming charges. Thought about it for a minute and I was in Clintwood that day (day Clintwood and Norton played). Checked my voice mail after the game and it cost me $2.

Went to the Alltel store in Wise today, according to them, Clintwood is roaming. Now surely some here have Alltel service and regularly go to Clintwood. Do you get hit with roaming charges?

Funny thing is, and I didn't think of it until I was out of the store and on my way home, the roaming signal never showed up on my phone. I'll usually get a flashing delta when I'm at Pound Lake (when I can get a decent signal), but that just means I'm out of my home area.

I've got the National Freedom plan and it doesn't show the Clintwood area as being out of the network.

Have a year left on my contract, but I think I'll go with Verizon when the time comes.

I think the problem is the Clintwood area also picks up on a lot of KY towers. I could be wrong but I think that may be it???

That was what the Alltel-[censored] told me. Picks up off a KY tower or something like that. But if that is the case, why not tell people up front that that is the case? Why not post a notice in their stores in this area that the calls made from Clintwood/Pound will be roaming.

And WTF didn't my phone show that I was roaming? Had I known that, I would have waited until I got to Coeburn to check my voicemail.

To tell you the truth,, i don't know what plan I have with ALLTEL,, but i never pay for roaming charges and use my cell frequently in Clintwood,,,

I got charged an extra $50 this month. I called Alltell and they told me I could get online to check my detailed bill. When I got on it said my bill had been deleted. I called them back and they said it would cost another $5 just for them to send me a detailed bill.

TheBeast and I have total freedom w/ Alltel...Which means you have no roaming no matter where you are...It cost a little more but it is worth it....and yes you are using KY towers in Pound....But where we travel we have to have that plan...Alltel really doesn't have anyone to compete with...Cingular doesn't have any signal in this area.. Mine says roaming whenever I'm up there. When I used to live on Caney Ridge I had service through Adelphia. I got a bill for $700 in roaming charges. They said it was where the KY towers were so strong that they were stilling the signal. Even though I wasn't roaming, it said I was. Bastards.
